    Notes:

    James Thomas Hall, son of Thomas Hall and Elizabeth Sloan, was born 20 September 1768.  He was a farmer.  He married Rachel Johnston, and eventually moved from Iredell County in 1833 to Tennessee, accompanied by all of his family except his son, the Reverend James Davidson Hall. 

    He died 14 March 1854 and his wife died 22 Oct 1839.  Both are buried at Mt. Carmel Church, Tipton Co., TN.

    Notes:

    Thomas Hall, eldest son of James Hall, Sr. and Prudence Roddy Hall, was born in Dauphin Co., PA in 1739.  In 1752 he came with his parents and their family to North Carolina, where they settled in what is now called Iredell County, in a neighborhood now called Bethany Township from the church of that name.  He married Elizabeth Sloan, daughter of Fergus Sloan (who was one of the first settlers to build a home on land that was afterwards made a part of the town of Statesville, NC), on 20 Feb 1764.

    Thomas Hall settled on a farm about one-half mile west of the site of Bethany Church, later known as the Howard Farm, and built his house several yards west of Ebenezer Academy near a branch.  (The spring could still be located in 1938.)

    Thomas Hall, farmer, as well as three of his brothers, was a soldier in the Revolutionary War.  His farm adjoined the grounds of Bethany Church. He died 18 Dec 1804.  His wife, who was born in 1750, died 13 Jan 1831, and both are buried in the cemetery at Bethany Church.

    Know ye, that I, Thomas Hall, of Iredell County, being of perfect mind and memory and calling to mind my mortality, that it is appointed for all men once to die, do dispose of my estate in the followinf manner: Viz., First I give to my beloved wife, Elizabeth Hall, the negro man named Newton and woman named Poll, likewise the stock of every kind, all the household furniture to be at her proper disposal also the use of the plantation on which I now live, together with all plantation implements, including the wagon, during life, or widowhood.  Again to my two sons, James and Fergus, I bequeath one dollar each, again to my two sons-in-law, Wm. Stevenson and James McCorkel, I bequeath one dollar each.  Again, to my daughter Peggy, my little negro girl named Rachel.

    Again, I bequeath to my daughter Polly, my little Negro girl named Leah.

    Again, I bequeath to my daughter Ann, the first female child which my negro woman Poll may have.

    Again, I bequeath and devise to my son Thomas, five hundred acres out of an entry containing three thousand acres located on Elk River, State of Tennessee; likewise a horse and saddle.

    Again, I bequeath and devise to my sons, Davidson and Hugh, the track of land on which I live, including the lands contained in the new grant and late conveyance of adjoining the old tract, to be equally divided considering quality and quantity.  Again to my two sons, Robert and Sandy, I bequeath and devise the tract of land bought of my brother Robert and adjoining the the land of Fergus Sloan, to be equally divided between them according to quantity and quality.

    Lastly, I do hereby authorize my wife, Elizabeth, to give to my daughter Sally a part equal to either of her other sisters before mentioned.

    To my daughter Prudence Stevenson I bequeath and devise one hundred sixty acres out of a tract containing three thousand acres located on Elk River, State of Tennessee.

    To my daughter Peggy  I bequeath one hundred sixty acres out of a tract containing three thousand acres located on Elk River, State of Tennessee.
