• Notes

  Spruce Osborne was a graduate of the University of North Caroline in 1806 and an army surgeon.  He was killed inan Indian massacre at Ft. Mims in Alabama during the War of 1812.  The gates of the fort had not been closed in years and could not be closed when the Indians attacked.  The deaths were avenged by Gen. Andrew Jackson.
