- Nathaniel Hubbard's Will
In the name of God Amen.
I, Nathaniel Hubbard, of the State of North Carolina and County of Wilkes, being low in body, but sound in mind, do make my last will and testament.
I first give my soul to God, and request my body to be decently buried.
Second, I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife, Sintha, a negro woman named Presila and a sorrel mare and horse during her widowhood and after that the said negro and increase to be equally divided among my children and I give my wife Sintha Hubbard all my cattle for her use during her widowhood.
Item, I give and bequeath unto my wife Sintha all my hogs for her use. I also give my still and still tube to my wife, Sintha during her widowhood and after that to be sold and equally divided among my children and I give all my sheep unto my wife, Sintha, to her use during her widowhood.
My wish is that my rifle gun shall be sold and the money divided between my son Benjamin Lewis Hubbard and James.
I give and bequeath unto my wife, Sintha all my land and with the saw mill and grist mill until my youngest son arrived at the age of twenty one years and then the above mentioned land and mills to be sold and equally divided between my sons.
My will is that my wife shall have all my working tools to her use during her widowhood.
I give and bequeath unto my step-son, Alfred Davidson, my saddle.
I give and bequeath unto my wife, Sintha Hubbard, all the household and kitchen furniture during her widowhood, excepting four volumes of the History of Tom Jones to be sold and the money put on interest. I, also give unto my wife, Sintha Hubbard, five bushels of salt to her use and family and the balance of salt I now have on hand to be sold and the money to be put on interest.
My will is that all my just debts be paid and my will and desire is that all the outstanding debts due me or is owning to me shall be collected and the money put out on interest and my will and desire is that all the money that I now have on hand shall be put out on interest with the above mentioned monies until my children arrive at twenty-one years of age and I appoint my father, Benjamin Hubbard, and William W. Martin, exectrs, to execute this last will and testament and do hereby revoke all other wills heretofore made by me.
Whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 24th day of May 1816.
