Histories |
| Letter from Alney McLean to cousin Samuel Stockard This letter had been transcribed and posted on the Tennkin.com site and was saved in 2009 and supplied to me by Kenneth Rickett in October 2018. This site no longer seems to be extant.
This letter provides many valuable insights on the McLean and Davidson families but it has several provable errors. None the less, it is a useful testimony to the early history of these families. |

Notes |
- From FindaGrave:
Two lawyers from Maury Co, TN had exchanged angry words during a trial. Calvin M Smith accepted a challenge from Robert M Brank to fight a duel in Simpson Co, KY. Smith killed Brank with the only shot fired. Tradition says that, by a request Brank made just before the duel, he was buried close to where he died.
Robert Houston Brank was born about 1799. His father, sheriff of Madison County, was a co-founder of the Paint Lick Presbyterian Church (Garrard County, KY) and many of the family are buried in the church cemetery. Robert H married Malinda Tennessee Davidson, a cousin, 16 Sep 1826, in Maury County, TN. Their son, Robert Houston Jr, was born 5 months after the fatal duel.
