- BREVARD -- James Owens Davidson, age 88, died Monday, July 2, 2001 at his home. He was a native of Mecklenburg County, and moved to Mooresville as a child. He was the son of the late Egbert Harper Davidson and the late Lucia Turnipseed Davidson. He attended the Mooresville Schools and graduated from Davidson College, Davidson, NC.
Following graduation he worked for the city of Charlotte as a chemist in the Water Department. After moving from Charlotte he had lived in Brevard, NC since 1944. In 1977, he retired from the technical department of Olin Corporation at Pisgah Forest, NC.
He was a member of Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian Church and had worked as a secretary in the Sunday School Department. He served as an officer of the church for thirty years, either as elder or deacon. He was a member of Gideons International.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Edward C. Davidson, and three sisters, Fan D. Cochran, Sallie D. Johnson and Margaret H. Davidson.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Efird Davidson; a son, James Efird Davidson and daughter-in-law, Cooper Davis Davidson of Durham, NC; three grandchildren, James Edward Davidson and wife, Lisa Snow Davidson of Chesapeake, VA, Stephen Brevard and Sarah Rebecca Davidson of Durham; a sister, Jane Violet Davidson of Mooresville, NC; and a niece, Lucia D. Russom of Leyden, MA.
A service will be conducted at Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian Church on Thursday, July 5, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Keith Thompson, Pastor and the Rev. Ben Ormand, Former Pastor are officiating. Interment will be Friday, July 6, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. in Rural Hill Cemetery, Huntersville, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian Church, 300 East Main Street, Brevard, NC 28712, or Hospice of Transylvania Community Hospital, P.O. Box 1116, Brevard, NC 28712.
Moore Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
