- From the Mrs. Guiles Flowers notes on Cumberland Davidsons:
Deeds for both Patrick Davidson and William Davidson are shown dated July 6th 1750 recorded July 2nd 1862 - by Thomas Cookson Surveyor for the Penns, then resident (Cookson) in Lancaster. The deeds show land granted to these two Davidsons "on Letort Spring" each paiding 80 pounds for his land grant. Reference to Vol 1, page 111 (Deeds) Cookson Bys land on Letort Spring for the Proprietors as their Agent and this land is now part of Carlisle.
Cookson was the man who secured the land for the County town of Carlisle - but no mention of course was made of the transaction as for the county town, so that real estate values might not rise. LSF.

In the name of God Amen! the 19th day of October 1754 I Patrick Davidson in the county of Cumberland, being very sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be given to God, therefore calling unt.. , mind and memory the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testamen.
That is to say, principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of God that gave it, and for my body I recommend it to the earth to be buried in a Christian like and decent manner, to the discretion of my Executors, not doubting that at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the Almighty power of God. And as touch such worldly estate where with it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I give, bequeath, and dispose of the same in the following manner and form.
Imprimus, I order that all of my estate be sold except my large Bible and my cloaths and my occupage [? equipage] and after funeral expenses are discharges and my debts paid I give and bequeath to Ann my dearly deloved wife, the third part of the remains of my estate, with all her body cloathing and my occupage and her saddle.
I give my well beloved son Samuel Davidson, the two thirds of my estate with all my body cloathing and my large Bible, and if it please God to call away my son Samuel Davidson, I order the one half of his estate to be given to my grandchild Patrick Davidson, and the other half of his estate to be given to my grandchild John Davidson, and I leave to my son William Davidson one English shilling, and I leave to my son George Davidson one English shilling, and I leave to my daughter Susannah one English shilling, and I leave to my daughter Catherine one English shilling, and I do hereby utterly disallow, revoke, and disannul all and every other former testaments or wills, and legacies, requests or Executors by me in any wise, before this time named or willed or and bequeathed. Ratifying and confirming this and none other to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above mentioned. And I do constitute appoint and ordain my well beloved sons William Davidson and George Davidson to my try and faithful Executors.
