    Obituary:
    Myrtle Lee Wike Kerley, age 80, a resident of Valley Nursing Center in Taylorsville and formerly of Black Oak Ridge Road, Taylorsville, died Tuesday, August 31, 2004, at Valley Nursing Center following an extended illness.

    She was born in Alexander County September 8, 1923, the daughter of the late Roby Wike and Cora Harrington Wike.

    She was retired from the furniture industry and was a member of Salem Lutheran Church.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Delmas Kerley; two sisters, Cloyce Wike and Helen Reese; and four brothers, Floyd Wike, Gayton Wike, Waitsel Wike, and Everette Wike.

    Survivors include a daughter, Jackie Herman and husband Tommy of Taylorsville; two sons, Blayne Kerley and wife Wanda and Randy Kerley and wife Sandy, all of Taylorsville; three sisters, Betty Benfield, Frances Pennell, and Gladys Echerd, all of Taylorsville; three brothers, Travis Wike and Wendell Wike, both of Taylorsville, and Lewis Wike of Virginia; three granddaughters, Keli Carpenter, Keri Herman, and Kasey Kerley; three grandsons, Matt Kerley, Corey Herman, and Kris Kerley; and two great-grandchildren.

    Funeral services were conducted Friday, September 3, 2004, at Salem Lutheran Church with Rev. Ray Ohlendorf officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

    Memorials may be made to Salem Lutheran Church, 4046 NC Hwy. 16 North, Taylorsville, NC 28681. Notes of sympathy may be e-mailed to the Kerley Family at adamsfuneralhome@charter.net. Adams Funeral Home of Taylorsville was in charge of arrangements.

    DEATH CLAIMS J. ROBY WIKE

    J. Roby Wike, 83, of route 5, Taylorsville died on Friday, September 2, at 9:15 p.m. in Vespers Nurse Home in Wilkes County. He had been in declining health for five years and seriously ill for five months.

    Born on November 5, 1893, in Alexander County, he was a son of the late Tillet J. and Laura Phillips Wike. A retired farmer, he was married to the former Cora L. Harrington.

    Services were held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 4, at Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Harold Hitzman and Rev. David Mancuso officiated. Burial was in Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery. The deceased was a member of Salem Lutheran Church.

    Survivors include his wife; five sons, Everette, Travis and Wendell Wike of Taylorsville, Gayton Wike of Statesville, and Lewis Wike of the U.S. Air Force; six daughters, Miss Cloyce Wike of the home, Mrs. Odell (Frances) Pennell, Mrs. Myrtle Kerley, Mrs. Helen Reese, Mrs. Floyd (Betty) Benfield, and Mrs. Bruce (Gladys) Echerd, all of Taylorsville; 27 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. John Deal, Mrs. Walter Mitchell, and Mrs. Johnny Harrington, all of Taylorsville; and two brothers, Lawson and Spencer Wike of Springfield, Illinois.

    Memorials may be made to Salem Lutheran Church in lieu of flowers.
