    280. Reese GULLICK was born between 1761 and 1770 possibly in North Carolina or Delaware. He died after 1840 in probably Franklin Co., Alabama.

NOTE: It is uncertain whether Richard and Reese Gullick were father and son or brothers. It is uncertain whether John Gullick was a son of Richard Gullick or Reese Gullick. Richard Gullick was of legal age by 1783 and Reese Gullick was of legal age by 1787. See following entries. They were surely born as early as the 1760s, if not earlier.

John Gullick was born in the 1780s, probably in Greene or Roane County, TN.

For the purpose of this reconstructed family, it is being assumed that Richard was the father of Reese [based on earlier records of Richard in NC], and that Reese is the father of John.

"Gallick", "Gullock". His name appeared on jury lists and as a captain of a tax precinct. Most of my abstracts contain no dates. Two are dated 1797 and
    1798.

[NOTE: The Reese Gullick in Roane County could be a different person from the Reese Gullick in Greene County. Subsequent records show a Reese Gullick, born 1760s, in Franklin County, Alabama, in 1840, and a Reese Gullick, born about 1750 buried in Cumberland County, TN.
Also, a Reese Gullick, born in the 1790s in TN, was on the 1850 and 1860 census of Overton Co., TN.]

    [NOTES:

Madison Co., AL., and Lincoln Co., TN share a common border. Who were Reese Gullick's children? Compare 1840 census of Franklin County, AL,
below. Reese P. Gullick, born in TN about 1810 is obviously one of Reese's sons. George Washington Gullick, born in TN about 1800, is possibly another
son. Andrew Gullick, born in TN about 1806, could be another of the 10-15 year old males on the 1820 census.

Reese Gullick's daughter possibly married in either Lincoln Co., TN, where no marriage records were maintained until 1838, or in Madison County, AL, where several "Gullett" females were married in the 1820s and 1830s.]

1820 state census, Franklin County, Alabama [formerly Mississippi Ter.]
Richard Gullick: 1 male and 1 female, age 21 or over; 2 females under 21, total: "5" [one child may not have been tabulated]. It is impossible to
determine Richard's approximate age from this census as only two age categories were reported.

Possible children of Reese Gullick were:

    140 i. John GULLICK.
ii. George Washington GULLICK was born about 1800 in Tennessee.
iii. [Unknown] GULLICK was born about 1810 in Tennessee or Alabama.
iv. Andrew J. GULLICK was born about 1806 in Tennessee.
    v. Reese Gullick.

John "Gullett" to John Towry [or Lowry], 40 acres on West Fork, Flint River (Second District), 17 JAN 1818, Recorded: Deed Book E-1, Page 261.

Solomon Gullick, son of John Gullick, was born in Tennessee between 1814 and 1816, based on his 1850 and 1860 census reports. This seems to prove that John Gullick was residing in Tennessee, probably in Lincoln County, during that period.

CAUTION: There were two persons named Solomon Gullick in the records of Lincoln County, TN.

Lincoln County, Tennessee, WILL BOOK 1, pages 351-352:
Solomon "Gullett" [Sr.] was administrator of estate of Samuel Chapalear [or Chaplain], deceased. Dated 23 JAN 1818. So John and this older Solomon
Gullick [Sr.] were probably both in Lincoln County by 1817. This Solomon Gullick, cabinet maker, born Delaware about 1790, is found on the 1850
census of Germantown, Shelby County, Tennessee [Page 198B/396]. His 1860 census [Page 362] indicated a birth year of about 1797.

[NOTE: Were John Gullick and Solomon Gullick (Sr.) brothers? If so, then John Gullick was probably also born in Delaware. where six "Gullett" familes
are listed on the RECONSTRUCTED 1790 CENSUS. However, Richard and Reese Gullick were in Greene County, Tennessee, before 1790. See notes for Reese Gullick.]

    spouse [Mahala Fudge] age 30-39 [born 1791 - 1800],
    3 males age 10-14 [born 1814 - 1820],
    1 male and 1 female age 5-9 [born 1821 - 1825], 2 males and 1 female age less then 5 [born 1826 - 1830].
    Total: 10.

1840 census of Marion County, Alabama, Page 49: Mahala Gullick's household.
    One female age 60 - 69 [Mahala, born 1770s],
one male age 80 - 89 [born 1750s; possibly Richard Gullick?],
    one male, age 15 - 19 [born 1821 - 1825],
    two females age 5-9 [born 1831 - 1840].

John Gullick was probably in Lafayette Co., MS, in 1840, as his wife, Mahala Fudge Gullick, was listed as the head of his household in Marion Co.,
Alabama. John Gullick should be found residing in the household of one of his sons in Lafayette County, MS, in 1840.

    Lafayette County, Mississippi, Chancery Court Office, Probate Court Records, 1836 - 1858, Volume I. Docket 174 & 175, Box 137 - 184.
John Gullick, deceased 1845. Solomon Gullick, administrator. Mahala Gullick, widow. Docket 194, Box 185 - 251. Mahala Gullick's petition for dower.
Photocopies of the estate settlement papers of John Gullick are in possession of the preparer: Robert T. Strong, Jr. These papers contain the signatures of John Gullick, Mahala Gullick, and Solomon Gullick, and also the signature of William M. Boles. These records leave no doubt regarding the correct spelling of the surname, "Gullick", or the surname "Boles". ["Bowles" appears to be incorrect. In Shelby County, Texas, also, the name was spelled "Boles".]

John Gulllick married Mahala FUDGE before 1812 in probably Greene Co., TN.

    141. Mahala FUDGE was born about 1795 in Edgefield District, SC. She died after 1860 in Lafayette Co., MS. See also notes on John Gullick, her husband.

1840 census of Marion County, Alabama, Page 49.
[John Gullick was probably in Lafayette County, Mississippi, in 1840, and should be enumerated in the household of one of his sons there.]

Children of John Gullick and Mahala Fudge were:

    70 i. Solomon GULLICK.
ii. William W. GULLICK was born about 1817 in Greene or Lincoln Co., KY. He died in 1890 in Calhoun Co., MS.
iii. Jonathan GULLICK was born about 1818 in Greene or Lincoln Co., TN. He died after 1880.
iv. Moses E. GULLICK was born about 1820 in Marion Co.?, AL. He died about 1900 in Union Co., MS.
    v. Mahala GULLICK was born about 1823 in Madison or Marion Co., AL.
vi. [Unknown] GULLICK was born about 1823 in Madison Co., AL.
vii. Parmelia GULLICK was born about 1829 in Marion Co., AL.
viii. Keziah D. GULLICK was born about 1830 in Marion Co., AL.
ix. [A. McDonald] GULLICK was born on 1 FEB 1837 in Marion Co., AL. He died on 25 MAY 1922 in Ferris, Ellis Co., TX. He was buried on 28 MAY 1922. His full name was Alexander McDonald Gullick.

It is uncertain whether this is a son of John and Mahala Gullick. There was no son of this age in Mahala Gullick's household in Marion County, AL, in
1840. Yet, in 1850 this "McDonald" Gullick is residing with her and her second husband, William Poteete, in Lafayette County, MS. He is listed here as a son of John Gullick until more information becomes available. [A copy of his death certificate may clarify the identity of his parents.]
