    John W. Davidson owned a general store and was Postmaster of Old Woodland, Chickasaw Co., MS. In 1850 Census he had 2,000A of land. The store was located near the present Woodland Cemetery, which is also near the Natchez Trace overpass on the Woodland-Sparta road. He gave land for the cemetery. At that time there was also a Presbyterian Church there. (Cumberland Presbyterian, probably).

    1850 Census. Showed he had 2,000A land.

    According to his grandaughter, Mrs. Susanna Davidson Hill, John W. sold part of his land prior to moving to TX to a Mr. McArthur. He gave the rest to one of his sons, Daniel R. and accompanied sons, John H. & Samuel to TX.

    DNA Evidence Shows that this family is DNA Family 1. One source has this being the John Davidson, son of James Davidson and Mary McConnell; however, that John Davidson died in Rutherford County and left a Will naming children.

    J. E. Davidson, Gr-Grandson of John told that John and family were moving to San Antonio, TX, where he died and the family returned to TN. It could have been that he died enroute. Williamson Co., TN Court Records state that John Davidson & his WIDOW reside in MO Terr. His widow, Rebecca and children did in fact return and she was on tax rolls in 1820.
