  Enlisted Company A, 4th Regiment North Carolina Troops in Statesville, Iredell County, North Carolina in April 1861.  Served as Lieutenant and Captain. Resigned December 1862. Joined Company K, 37th Regiment North Carolina State Troop. Appointed 2nd Lieutenant September 14, 1863. Servied in this unit until end of war. Applied and was approved for Civil War Pension (File No. 3388) in Rains County, Texas October 9, 1899. After his death, Mrs. W. L. Davidson applied and was approved for William's pension (File No. 9745) July 16, 1903. Moved to Van Zandt County, Texas in 1872. Moved to Rains County, Texas in 1897.
