John Davidson married Lucinda Greer on 28 June 1842 at Columbus, Lowndes, Mississppi.
The couple was in Archer / Young County by 1879.

John W. Davidson owned a general store and was Postmaster of Old Woodland, Chickasaw Co., MS. In 1850 Census he had 2,000A of land. The store was located near the present Woodland Cemetery, which is also near the Natchez Trace overpass on the Woodland-Sparta road. He gave land for the cemetery. At that time there was also a Presbyterian Church there. (Cumberland Presbyterian, probably).
1850 Census. Showed he had 2,000A land.
1860 " " " " RE $24.000 PP $39,000.
1870 " " " " RE $9,000 PP $ 4,500.
According to his grandaughter, Mrs. Susanna Davidson Hill, John W. sold part of his land prior to moving to TX to a Mr. McArthur. He gave the rest to one of his sons, Daniel R. and accompanied sons, John H. & Samuel to TX.
