Joe Jester, 84, of Fort Sumner, a retired businessman, died Tuesday, April 27, at De Baca General Hospital.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday at the Garden of Memory in Fort Sumner. The Rev. Jim Peabody and Rev. Bob Brittain will officiate.
Chavez Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Russ, F. B. Willis, Rick Garner, Darryle Bender, Bill Hollen and Don Sweet.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Whilton and many friends, family and neighbors.
Jester was born in Orienta, Okla., to Lawrence and Kate Jester.
He was reared and attended school in the Orienta area. He drove a school bus and worked for many years in auto body repair in Oklahoma.
He married Goldie Roach on April 28, 1944, in Las Vegas, Nev. Together they owned and operated Jester's Lawn Mower Shop in Redlands, Calif., from 1968 to 1979, when he retired. He made his home in Long Beach, Lakewood, Yucaipa, and Hesperia, Calif., before moving to Fort Sumner.
He enjoyed flying and was a student pilot. He also enjoyed gardening and working with metal and wood work.
He was a member of First Christian Church in Orienta.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Lawrence, John, Albert, Max and Paul Jester; and two sisters, Minnie Jester and Rose Ehuhi.
Survivors include his wife, Goldie Jester of Fort Sumner; one daughter, Betty Jo Evans, Belin; two brothers, Barry Jester of Northridge, Calif., and Emil Jester of Pixley, Calif.
Memorials may be made to the Fort Sumner Cemetery, P.O. Box 180, Fort Sumner, N.M. 88119.
