"Just wanted to put this right for Wiley Turner and Susannah that livid in Tippah County in the 1840s to 1870. There has been a long misconception on many trees that they are from Caswell County and Susannah's last name was Strador. This has caused research on them to stall or go in a totally wrong direction.
The wife of Wiley Turner's maiden name was Fast/Dast or Dost, not Strador. There is no record what so ever of his middle name being Barry or being from Caswell County, those were totally a different people.
Wiley was from Nash county where he shows up in the 1830 and 1840 census.
There are land records for both him and his brother James there in Nash County.
Wiley's son Wiley Redmond Turner's confederate enlistment record states his place of birth as Nash County NC.
His brother James and his wife Una Joyner Turner are even mentioned in Amos Joyner's will in Nash county and Nash county census in 1830 and 1840.
Susannah's maiden name was also confirmed by Mary Turner Pankey, grand-daughter of Wiley and Susannah in an interview in 1969 by Curtis Rushing.
Further evidence of Susannah's last name comes from her son's Thomas Washington Turner's death certificate stating his mother's last name as Fast/Dast or Dost (it's hard to read)
Barry and Susannah Strador Turner that are cited as being married in Caswell County in 1828 are different people.
Barry Turner was born in Buckingham County Virginia in 1802 and died in Mason Illinois in 1882. All records for our Wiley state he was born in North Carolina. Please change your records so we can all go the same direction and achieve our ultimate goal of going further back in our tree.
