  Frank William Furches joined Co. F, 105th Engineers, North Carolina National Guard on September 16, 1940.  He graduated from Officer Candidate School at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, on April 28, 1943.  He served more than 2 years in the European Theater of Operations.  He was released from service at Fort Bragg as a 1st Lieutenant on January 21, 1946.  He has American Defense Medal and the European, African, Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 3 battle stars.
